1. Have you worked with practices like mine?

Ask whether the consultant has experience with practices that look like yours in size, specialty, market, team structure, and goals. If you are preparing for a sale, bringing on an associate, improving case acceptance, or rebuilding systems, you want someone who understands that specific situation.

Relevant experience matters because the best recommendations are grounded in context.

2. What measurable results have you helped clients achieve?

Good consulting should lead to visible progress. That progress may show up as increased collections, improved profitability, stronger scheduling systems, better case acceptance, cleaner leadership rhythms, a more accountable team, or a smoother transition process.

Ask for examples of measurable results. The consultant should be able to talk about outcomes without overpromising. Look for specific patterns, not vague claims.

The goal is not to find a magic formula. The goal is to understand whether the consultant can turn advice into practical results.

3. How do you assess a practice before making recommendations?
